KATHMANDU, Oct 17: The Nepal Army Headquarters has made a recommendation to promote Major General Tara Dhwaj Pandey, currently serving as the chief of the Directorate of Military Operations within the Nepal Army, to the rank of Lieutenant General.
After Lieutenant General Saroj Pratap Rana retired, the Nepal Army Headquarters recommended Major General Pandey for promotion to the post of Lieutenant General. With Pandey being recommended for promotion to the post of Lieutenant General, he is on track to potentially assume the role of Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) following the tenure of the current CoAS, Prabhu Ram Sharma.

In the 7-day notification regarding promotion recommendation issued by the Nepali Army, it is mentioned that Major General Pandey has been recommended for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General, which has become vacant within the military general service of the Nepali Army as per the provisions outlined in paragraph 3 of the Army Service Rule, 2069 BS.
Saroj Pratap Rana, the second-highest-ranking official in the army, recently took leave, and Sitaram Khadka, another Lieutenant General, is set to retire on December 19, 2023, in accordance with the age limit regulations.
