KATHMANDU, August 25: The Chairman of the proposed CPN (Unified Democratic), Madhav Kumar Nepal and the Chairman of Democratic Socialist Party, Mahantha Thakur are scheduled to visit the Election Commission later today for verification of their leaders and lawmakers.
The EC has announced plans to expedite the process to register new political parties after the verification of the signatures of Central Committee members and lawmakers.
Earlier, the splinter factions of the CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party had filed an application at the EC to register two separate political parties.
Issuance of the ‘party-split’ ordinance allowed Nepal and Thakur to register the parties of their own.
Earlier on August 21, the poll body summoned Madhav Kumar Nepal and Mahantha Thakur for the verification on August 25.
The EC is expected to deliver its decision on the registration of political parties following the verification of the executive committee members and party lawmakers.
