Superintendent of Police (SP) Shekhar Koirala, who is also the coordinator of the committee formed to probe the incident said the police personnel involved in investigating the incident tried to reconcile the disputing parties instead of investing the case thoroughly.
“It was obvious that rape attempt was made on Maya. But the police mediated reconciliation between the two sides without bothering to find the real assaulter,” SP Koirala added. He also informed that the probe team would submit its report on Sunday.
According to police, Jeevan Bhetwal, his wife Sebita, Amit Bhetwal and his wife Kamala, who have been arrested for physically assaulting Manoj and Maya, have been charged with promoting untouchability in the society.
