Police forms 5-member panel to probe police 'negligence'

KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Amid call from various quarters that the police officials who handled the case of Nirmala Panta's rape and murder in the initial stage in negligent manner, be investigated, Nepal Police has formed a five-member probe panel led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Uttam Subedi.

KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Amid call from various quarters that the police officials who handled the case of Nirmala Panta's rape and murder in the initial stage in negligent manner, be investigated, Nepal Police has formed a five-member probe panel led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Uttam Subedi.

According to Nepal Police spokesman Shailesh Thapa, the new probe panel will see what had happened there and what went wrong. "The panel will also recommend action if necessary against the police officials who handled the case in the initial stage,” he said.


The panel will investigate the then Kanchanpur District Police chief Dilli Raj Bista, and other police officials including DSP Kumar Shetty, DSP Angur GC of Central Bureau of Investigation, and Ekindra Khadka, who was then serving at the complaints section of the Kanchanpur District Police Office.
