KATHMANDU, May 21: The National Examination Board (NEB) has found that the use of the ‘random’ answer sheet evaluation method for publishing Secondary Education Examination (SEE) Grade 10 results led to a significant number of errors.
Grade X Examination Controller Ganesh Bhattarai said that in previous years, evaluators assessed only 20 percent of the answer sheets and applied the same standard to the remaining ones, which negatively affected many students. To address this issue, the NEB revised the evaluation method this year.
NEB to conduct SEE examination through internal evaluation

Last year, the NEB marked many students as failed, despite their performance being worthy of an 'A Plus' grade, which caused unnecessary mental stress.
“To prevent such stress this year, the board instructed evaluators to check every page of every answer sheet during the evaluation. We also organised an orientation programme to guide them through the checking and evaluation process,” Examination Controller Bhattarai told Republica.
He added that until last year, evaluators reviewed only 20 percent of SEE answer sheets during re-evaluation. “That approach caused many errors. To ensure accurate results this year, we have prioritised thorough re-evaluation. The board has directed evaluators to go through every page of each answer sheet,” he explained.
Controller Bhattarai also noted that evaluators have already begun checking answer sheets at 50 centres across the country. A total of 517,000 students appeared for this year’s SEE examination.
