NDRRMA, UN Resident Coordinator discuss relief, rehabilitation efforts

The talks between the Executive Chief of NDRRMA, Dinesh Bhatt, and UN Resident Coordinator Hamdy focused on relief measures, including the preliminary rehabilitation in view of the recent monsoon disasters that occurred, especially in the eastern belt of the country.

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) held a discussion with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Hanaa Singer Hamdy, on the post-disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts. 



The talks between the Executive Chief of NDRRMA, Dinesh Bhatt, and UN Resident Coordinator Hamdy focused on relief measures, including the preliminary rehabilitation in view of the recent monsoon disasters that occurred, especially in the eastern belt of the country. During the meeting held today at Singha Durbar, Executive Chief Bhatt shared details on the impact on human lives and property, particularly in Ilam.

He also briefed her on the early warning systems, proactive measures, and response initiatives enforced to minimise the damage. 


Hamdy outlined the support that UN agencies could promptly offer for food and non-food relief, drinking water, sanitation, and initial rehabilitation in Ilam, the district that suffered the worst in the landslide triggered by the late monsoon rains. She also appreciated the initiatives taken by Nepal and the Authority in response to the disaster, according to the Authority's Spokesperson Shanti Mahat.
