KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal has decided to take to the streets against the government's decision to dissolve the House of Representatives.

A central committee meeting of the NCP's rival faction held at a party venue in Babarmahal made a decision to this effect.

Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha told reporters that demonstration protests will begin from Kathmandu on Friday. "We will stage protests every day," he said.

On December 29, the rival faction of the party will stage protests in all 77 districts.

A 2501-member ‘agitation mobilization committee’ has been formed to launch the protests in various parts of the country, according to Spokesperson Shrestha.

"We are going to protest mainly in Kathmandu," he said. Spokesperson Shrestha also said that they will decide on further protest programs later.

"The nature of the agitation is yet to be decided. It could be even enforcing a nationwide strike," Shrestah said.

As part of their agitation, leaders of the NCP's Dahal-Nepal faction are visiting the Election Commission and organizing a press meet at 2 pm on December 25.

On December 26, the rival faction will hold the party's provincial committees' meetings in all provinces.

On December 27, they will hold the party's district-level assemblies in all 77 districts.

Likewise, the rival faction will hold the party's assemblies at ward and village levels until December.

The decision of the rival faction of the NCP to stage protests comes two days after the party suffered a split on Tuesday as they differed on the government's decision to dissolve parliament, amid an already deepened intraparty rift.
