The Dahal-Nepal faction earlier on January 15 had sought clarification from Oli alleging that he was carrying out activities that go against the party's policies. The faction decided to strip Oli off even from the ordinary membership of the party after he chose not to furnish any clarification.

The faction had earlier relieved Oli from the post of the party chairman and chosen Madhav Kumar Nepal as the new co-chairman to Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
