KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The six-member task force formed earlier to resolve the differences seen within the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has been revived amid worsening relations between the party Chairman and Prime Minister K P Oli and Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The task force comprising of two leaders each from Oli, Dahal and senior leader Nepal factions within the party consists of Shanker Pokharel, Bishnu Paudel, Janardan Sharma, Pampha Bhusal, Bhim Rawal and Surendra Pandey. The task force has been revived to work out the differences between Oli and rival faction leaders as the latter have mounted pressure on Oli to follow the party’s instructions in the matters related to governance.

Sources said Prime Minister Oli has invited the task force members in Baluwatar for discussion on Monday afternoon. This development comes a day after hours-long meeting between Prime Minister Oli and senior leader Nepal to bridge the growing differences within the party and save the party unity.

Sources claimed that Oli has offered to help Nepal to be elected as the party’s chairman through unity general convention scheduled to be held early next year.

The intra-party conflict within the ruling NCP has reached at its peak after five of the total nine Secretariat members demanded in writing to call the party’s Secretariat members with PM Oli, who has been reluctant to call any meeting until the differences seen in the party are resolved at the level of top leaders.

The taskforce led by Paudel, who is also the party’s general secretary, had submitted a report to Chairman Oli and Executive Chairman Dahal nearly three months ago. The chairmen duo had submitted a joint proposal in the party’s Standing Committee meeting for discussion as per the report submitted by the taskforce.

Party insiders say the failure on the party of Prime Minister Oli to follow the recommendations made by the taskforce had revived intra-party dispute that was almost settled. Rival faction leaders have alleged that Prime Minister Oli had bypassed the party’s instructions in various key decisions.
