KATHMANDU, March 9: Ncell, a mobile service provider in Nepal, along with Marie Stopes International Nepal (MSIN) and the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), have launched a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at tackling cervical cancer in Nepal.
Named the Cervical Cancer Screening and Preventive Therapy (CCSPT) awareness campaign, this joint effort anticipates making a significant impact by spreading crucial information about cervical cancer prevention through screening and vaccination across the country. Targeting women and girls aged 9 to 49, the campaign will kick off in March 2024 and will encompass a range of activities.

Cervical cancer remains a major health concern in Nepal, with alarming statistics from 2022 showing that 2,169 women were diagnosed with the disease, resulting in 1,313 tragic deaths. The CCSPT campaign aims to combat this by leveraging Ncell's extensive network, including social media, and tapping into MSIN's community networks to maximize its reach and effectiveness.
The campaign aims to utilize various communication channels to disseminate vital information about cervical cancer prevention and treatment. This includes tailored mass-media awareness campaigns, strategic partnerships with relevant organizations for effective information dissemination, specialized talk shows, educational video production and distribution, and a collaborative walkathon with Ncell. Additionally, messaging through Ncell’s network will be utilized to raise awareness among the wider population.
Through these concerted efforts, the CCSPT campaign aims to increase access to information on cervical cancer and emphasize the importance of screening and vaccination. By empowering women to make informed choices about prevention and treatment, this initiative strives to combat cervical cancer and save lives in Nepal.
