CHITWAN, March 17: On the last day of electioneering for the election of Free Student Union, Nepali Congress here urged on Tuesday for the postponement of the election in Chitwan district, citing insecurity and continuing clashes between its student wing and rival student unions.

While urging Chitwan´s public campuses to postpone the election, a statement issued by NC´s Chitwan president Ram Krishna Ghimire has also urged the student unions to create an environment of security by exercising patience and restraint.

On Tuesday morning, shortly after members of NC-affiliated Nepal Student Union (NSU) padlocked Maiya Devi Girls College, their rivals affiliated to Communist Party of Nepal (United) opened the campus.

NSU activists have taken out protest rallies in protest against attacks on them by students affiliated to CPN (United). They have also accused Maoist-affiliated YCL and members of People´s Liberation Army of attacking them.
