NC-UML talks inconclusive

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: A meeting between the top leaders of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML at Baluwatar Tuesday ended inconclusively after the two parties stuck to their stances on the current political deadlock.



In the meeting, NC leaders said they cannot withdraw the candidacy of their leader Ram Chandra Poudel for the post of prime minister until there is a clear roadmap for consensus and asked the UML to support the NC in the fifth round of election for the prime minister’s post.[break]



In reply, the UML leaders told the NC that the UML has decided to remain neutral in prime ministerial election and that they cannot support the NC for a majority government. The UML leaders suggested the NC to come to consensus from a new beginning.



UML leader Bishnu Poudel said the UML’s stance that both the prime minister’s candidates should withdraw their candidacy to pave way for consensus.



UML leaders Madhav Nepal and KP Oli among others from the UML and Sushil Koirala, Ram Chandra Poudel, Ram Sharan mahat and Krishna Sitaula from the NC took part in the talks.
