A meeting of the NC and UML held at NC´s Party Headquarters in Sanepa, Wednesday, decided to be flexible for formation of national consensus government if the Maoists agreed to an implementation plan with timetable on various issues related to peace process and constitution drafting.[break]
The ruling parties, however, said that they are yet to initiate discussion on who would lead such a government.
Earlier, the two parties had set a deadline of May 24 for the Maoists to determine the number of combatants to be integrated in the security forces while removing remaining combatants from the cantonments.
“The prime minister will resign from the post to pave way for the formation of national consensus government once the Maoists express written commitment on the implementation timetable,” said a leader engaged in the negotiations.
Talking to media persons, UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said though they have arrived at consensus on some of the agendas they are yet to settle some issues. He said that dialogues are continuing at various levels among the parties. “Both NC and UML have agreed to reach consensus at the earliest by holding meeting among the top leaders of all three parties,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, NC leaders had met Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Naya Bazaar. Likewise, NC and UML leaders had held a meeting at the official residence of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in Baluwatar in the evening.
