KATHMANDU, Dec 26: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to press the government to declare the local polls immediately.

NC General Secretary Shashank Koirala said that the meeting of incumbent and former office-bearers of the party held at Singha Durbar on Monday deicided to press the government to announce the election dates.

The meeting has also demanded with the government to fulfill the vacant posts at the Election Commission (EC).

“Most of the leaders were for announcing the date for the local polls at the soonest,” said Koirala, “Thus, the meeting decided to press the government to appoint commissioners at EC and present polls-related bills at parliament.”

Although the main opposition party, UML, is adamant on obstructing House unless the government withdraws the constitution amendment bill, NC decided to take forward the bill. Koirala added that the meeting also urged UML to lift the obstruction.
