An informal meeting of the party´s office bearers and central working committee members in the capital on Sunday morning decided to mobilize all its sister organizations to intensity the anti-government protests.[break]
The decision comes a day after various 15 opposition parties including NC jointly announced a month-long protest programs to unseat Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to pave way for the ´formation of national consensus government´.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel said the meeting has directed party cadres and leaders to organize protests in areas assigned to the NC and make it successful. He said that the party may take a formal decision to this effect through its CWC meeting.
The NC is entrusted to coordinate mass rallies in Janakpur and Nepalgunj and other protests in various districts across the country. The informal meeting focused on ways to make the rally peaceful, disciplined and effective.
CWC member Badri Pandey, said the CWC members present in the meeting had asked the party leadership to come up with a strategy to make the anti-government protests a success. The meeting also reviewed the rally NC organized on Friday in Kathmandu to mark the 97th birth anniversary of late Ganesh Man Singh.
The issue of new budget also figured in the new meeting. Though some leaders argued that party should be flexible on the issue of the budget, others argued there was no point in becoming flexible as the government was moving ahead in a stubborn manner. “Most members argued that ruling parties need to be more responsible than the opposition parties for forging consensus on the issue,” Pandey further said.
NC Spokesperson Dilendra Badu said there must be a national consensus government in place to hold the fresh elections. “The meeting held discussion on ousting the current government to pave way for the formation of a consensus government. New government should bring new budget,” he said.
