SURKHET, Nov 23: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Hridaya Ram Thani has been elected as member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Surkhet-2. Thani obtained 34,625 votes while his nearest rival Amrit Bahadur Budha Chhetri of CPN-UML garnered 29,558 votes.
Thani routed Budha Chhetri, who is also the UML’s Surkhet District Chairman, with the margin of 5,067 votes.
With this win, Thani has been able to make it to the federal parliament three times. However, he was defeated by UML’s Nabaraj Rawat in the parliamentary elections held in 2074 BS.
Meanwhile, NC’s Purna Bahadur Khadka has taken lead in the initial vote counting in Surkhet-1.
According to the Office of the Returning Officer, Khadka has led the vote count tally by getting 1,772. His nearest rival UML’s Dhruba Kumar Shahi has got 1,355 as a total of 3,238 votes are counted so far.
