SURKHET, Feb 4: Two women have been killed in lightning strikes in Surkhet and Salyan districts. One woman died in Bheriganga Municipality of Surkhet and the other in Bangad Kupinde Municipality of Salyan, according to the police.

SURKHET, July 14: Police have arrested a person with the possession of brown sugar (an adulterated form of heroin). 42-year-old Lila Ram Puri was arrested from his house at Pipira in Birendranagar Municipality-11 on the charge of possessing 180 milligrams of brown sugar.

SURKHET, May 14: The prohibitory order enforced in Surkhet district as a precautionary measure to contain the second wave of Covid-19 has been extended by two weeks.

The number of infected patients at the hospital is surging every day. The demand for oxygen from the patients has not been met despite the hospital supplying some amount from the private hospitals and clinics. 10 bigha of school land captured

SURKHET, Feb 20: Nepal Rastriya Primary School in western Surkhet that once had around 10 bighas of land of its own is now shrunk to a small plot. While there is not enough space left even for students to play, the earlier open area is now fully occupied by infrastructures, vegetable and crop farms. In 2006, some locals had decided to give the public land they had been using to the school located at Chyurikhet at Panchapuri Municipality–2, making it one of the spacious schools in the district. According to the school's Principal Dil Bahadur Gharti, the school is now struggling to recover the land.

Misuse of govt land rife in Surkhet

SURKHET, Jan 19: On May 29, 2015 an agreement was signed between the Municipal Development Committee, Surkhet and Sushil Raj Sharma, to lease out one and half katha land and a house for 10 years with monthly rent of Rs 20,000. According to the committee officials, Sharma has so far paid only Rs 340,000 whereas his outstanding dues stand at Rs 780,000.
