During the meeting, some PP members termed the deal “vague” and demanded clarifications as to what the “fundamental tasks of peace process” as outlined in the five-point deal referred to.
According to Joshi, the meeting concluded that the spirit of the deal is to first conclude the peace process and then to go for promulgation of the new constitution. He said the Maoists have already expressed their commitment to conclude the fundamental tasks of peace process and bring out a draft constitution within the extended CA term.
“Most of the colleagues are positive about the five-point deal. They have said that most of the demands put forth by Nepali Congress have been addressed in the deal,” said Dr Ram Sharan Mahat.
A majority of PP members present at the meeting also pointed out the need for strongly pushing the agenda of NC in the days ahead. “They opined that NC should take a proactive role in concluding the peace process within the stipulated three months,” Dr Mahat further said.
The NC PP members have also suggested to the party leadership to prepare a work plan so that the peace process can be concluded within the extended CA term.
“The meeting has also urged all parties concerned to honestly implement the five-point deal in both letter and spirit,” said Joshi.
