NC leader Singh remembered

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The statue of the Nepali Congress leader and Founding President of the Nepal Women´s Association, Mangala Devi Singh, was garlanded to mark her 17th memorial day here on Sunday.



Nepali Congress General Secretary, Prakash Man Singh, who is also the son of the late Singh, garlanded the statue amidst a function organised by Nepal Women´s Association at Shovabhagawati in the capital today and discussed on the contribution made by the late Singh in Nepali politics. [break]



He said the late Singh had actively participated in various democratic movements and struggled lifelong for social reform.



Similarly, NC Kathmandu District Committee President Bhimsen Das Pradhan said the late Singh had made great contribution to make an end to violence against women and establish their rights, and stressed that the coming generation should learn from her life.



The late Singh had drawn the attention of the then Prime Minister Padma Shumsher Rana to give voting rights, established Padmakanya School to ensure rights of women to education, among others, said NC leader Rajya Laxmi Shrestha.



Born on 1981 BS, Mangaladevi had founded the Nepal Women´s Association in 2004 BS and became its first president.
