KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Paudel is going to be awarded with one of the highest state honors by the Japanese government. The honor was announced on April 29, 2020, and the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu is going to confer him the award amidst a special program at his residence on Thursday.


Senior leader Poudel is receiving the state honor 'Order of the Rising Sun' which was started by the Japanese Emperor Meiji at 3pm. Paudel and Microsoft founder Bill Gates were the leaders in this honor announcement, which is given twice a year to outstanding people in the world.


Poudel has been especially appreciated for his contribution to strengthening the relationship between Nepal and Japan in his capacity as the speaker of the parliament in the past to activate the contacts between the parliamentarians of the two countries.

He had established the Nepal-Japan Friendship Parliamentary League in 1999 when he was the Speaker and was also its first chairman. He headed the league till 2017 and was also actively involved in promoting bilateral relations.


The honor is also given to outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the promotion of relations between Japan and other countries in fields such as politics and diplomacy, research and education, medicine and social welfare, economy and industry, culture and sports.
