NC leader Koirala holds meetings with UK Minister of State, MP

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala, who is on a visit to the United Kingdom (UK), met with Sir Nic Dakin, the UK Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Law, at the House of Commons on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala, who is on a visit to the United Kingdom (UK), met with Sir Nic Dakin, the UK Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Law, at the House of Commons on Thursday.


Koirala and Dakin discussed the human rights situation in Nepal and transitional justice during their meeting.

NC leader Koirala also held a meeting with Alex Baker, the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Nepal in the UK Parliament.


In the meeting held at the Nepali Embassy in London, Koirala discussed various issues with Baker including addressing the service and welfare issues of former Gurkha soldiers, establishing direct flights between London and Kathmandu through British Airways and the crisis in Nepal caused by climate change, including the melting snow that is affecting the beauty of the mountains.


Koirala emphasized that Nepal should receive compensation for the damage caused by climate change, and called for the UK’s support in this matter.


In response, Baker pledged to provide all possible assistance. Nepal’s acting ambassador to the UK, Bipin Duwadi, also attended the meeting.
