MAHOTTARI, Jan 8: A Nepali Congress (NC) Mahasamiti member was killed in a road accident in Mahottari district on Tuesday.

NC leader Lalan Kumar Raya, 58, a resident of Manara Shiswa-10, Mahottari, was rushed to hospital after being critically injured in a bus-truck collision at Bardibas Municipality-5.

He was referred to Biratnagar-based Nobel Hospital after preliminary treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital, but the doctors pronounced him brought dead. A total of 18 passengers on board the bus also sustained injuries.

According to Superintendent of Police Shyam Krishna Adhikari of the District Police Office, Mahottari, the bus (Na 5 Kha 6411) lost its control and hit the truck (Na 4Kha 5813) loaded with sugarcanes.

Likewise, Raghbendra Jha, president of Mahottari Chapter of NC, and Jaya Prakash Chaudhary, another NC leader, also sustained injuries in the accident. Both of them are receiving treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital, according to police.

Likewise, the other injured are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Bardibas, according to SP Adhikari.
