KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The Nepali Congress (NC) has instructed district members to submit their nominations for the party’s Mahasamiti in districts where selections are still pending by October 16.
As preparations for the 14th NC Convention are underway, there are 25 districts where the Mahasamiti members have not yet been elected. Jagannath Shrestha, secretary of the Election Committee, said that since the representatives have to be selected for the Mahasamiti meeting to be held from November 29 to December 1, they have been instructed to send the list.
There is a provision in the law that 11 individuals from the constituencies of the House of Representatives will be representatives of the Mahasamiti meeting. According to the election committee, the Mahasamiti representatives of 45 districts have been selected completely. Representatives have already been selected in most of the districts with more than one constituency. Among the districts that have two or more constituencies, in some of them the selection has already been made in some areas, while in others, it is yet to be done.
According to the election committee, representatives have not been selected in some areas of Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa in Koshi. In Koshi Province, representatives are also being chosen in Bhojpur, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Solukhumbu, Khotang, and Okhaldhunga.
Representatives are yet to be elected in all areas of Parsa in Madhesh. In Dhanusha, two out of four regions have not been able to have representatives of the Mahasamiti. In three regions of Mahottari and two regions of Sarlahi, the Mahasamiti members have not been selected.
In Bagmati Province, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Kavre and Bhaktapur have already elected their NC Mahasamiti representatives. In Gandaki Province, representatives from Parbat, Myangdi, Baglung, Lamjung are yet to be selected.
In Lumbini Province, representatives have been selected from Nawalparasi West, Gulmi, Rupandehi, Rukum East, Pyuthan and Banke. In Karnali Province, elections for representatives from Salyan and Dailekh are yet to be held, while in the Far West, elections for representatives from Doti, Kailali and Kanchanpur are yet to be held.
According to the party's statute, regional representatives are responsible for electing representatives to the Mahasamiti Convention.
