KATHMANDU, June 8: The Nepali Congress (NC) on Friday held a joint meeting of the party´s central working committee (CWC) and parliamentary party (PP) members to form a common position on electoral system, system of governance and boundary as well as names of the proposed federal states.

The meeting held at the call of the party´s Acting President Ram Chandra Paudel at the party´s headquarters in Sanepa discussed several thorny issues related to the constitution drafting and peace process in a bid to forge a common position.[break]

“We held discussions on the peace process, constitution drafting and the names of federal structures,” said NC CWC member Bala Bahadur KC. “But no decision was taken at the meeting as such.”

The meeting was also attended by over a dozen of experts, journalists and civil society activists close to NC. “We will draft a proposal at the CWC meeting based on the suggestions from parliamentarians, CWC members and experts,” said KC.

Vice President Paudel is an ex-officio head of the party´s training department. Paudel also heads the Constitution Drafting Suggestion Committee formed earlier by the party.

“We concluded that the new constitution is possible only after concluding the peace process. The peace process should be taken ahead on the basis of the Comprehensive Peace Accord,” KC further said.
