KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma hit out at the President of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Chatur Bahadur Chand, in connection to rape-accused Sandeep Lamichhane saying that why does an organization that follows the rules of the game does not follow the rule of law.

He called the president of CAN on Friday afternoon and then tweeted: 'Doesn't an organization that follows the rules of the game have to follow the rule of law?'

He also commented that the prime minister's silence is not a responsible answer.

Sharma made this comment after Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) on Thursday included cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was accused of raping a minor, in the national cricket team for closed-camp training. Social media users are also running a #boycottcan campaign against Sandeep and CAN.

Former captain Lamichhane, who was suspended for three and a half months after being accused of rape, has been included in the national cricket team for closed-camp training after the Patan High Court released him on bail. The rape case against Lamichhane is still sub judice in the district court in Kathmandu.

The Attorney General's Office has filed a petition at the Supreme Court demanding the annulement of the high court order to release Lamichhane on bail. Responding to the petition, the Supreme Court has sought the files related to the rape case.

CAN had recently called 28 players for the first round of closed-camp training for Nepal’s tri-series against Scotland and Namibia under the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two.
