NC decided to expel those filing candidacy against the party's official candidates and those supporting such candidates.  Dissatisfaction has surfaced among leaders over the party's decision to forge alliance with the coalition partners and several NC leaders have fielded rebel candidacies against the party's or the alliance's official candidates.

The NC has said that rebel candidates and their supporters were stripped off the party's membership  as per the Article 4 (13C) of the Nepali Congress Statute 2017 BS (With Amendments). The rebel candidates will have to contest the poll in the capacity of independent candidates as they are expelled from the party.
