NC donates Rs 10 million in PM Relief Fund for quake victims

KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to donate Rs 10 million to Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to provide assistance to the victims of the massive earthquake that jolted the country on Saturday.

The party's Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel, who chairs the Earthquake Disaster Management Coordination Committee, made the announcement during a press conference organized at the NC's Parliamentary Party office in Singh Durbar.Paudel said that the fund will be raised up to Rs 15 million. "We invite all well wishers to deposit the money in our bank account - 113000376301-at Rastriya Banijya Bank," he said. He also appealed to the government to come up with immediate and long-term plansto address difficulties faced by the earthquake's victims.

NC lawmaker Dhan Raj Gurung, who is also a member of the coordination committee, said they have urged the government to first identify districts heavily affected by the earthquake and collect actual statistics of the family members affected by the earthquake.

The NC also thanked the media for playing a positive role in the aftermath of the earthquake that has killed over 6000 people and rendered many more injured and homeless. Among other things, NC has also demanded the government distribute relief materials in an equitable manner.
