The two leaders, who were not even on ´proper speaking terms´ after Deuba tendered his resignation from the post of Central Working Committee (CWC) member in September, 2011 when Koirala chose to dissolve the executive committees of various sister organizations of the party, claimed that the ongoing disputes in the party would be resolved within a week. Talking to media after the meeting, Deuba said, “The party president is positive about solving the problem in a package deal. The disputes will be resolved within a week.”
Deuba, who flew to Dhangadhi for a party function at noon, had reached Koirala´s residence as requested by the latter. “Now we will move ahead unitedly,” he further said.
The development comes in the wake of a joint meeting of Deuba-aligned CWC and parliamentary party members during which the need for party unity and for finding an amicable solution for disputes persisting in the party was stressed. The Deuba faction has been snubbing the CWC meetings ever since Deuba resigned from the CWC.
During the one-on-one meeting Thursday morning, Deuba apprised the NC president of the gathering of CWC and parliamentary party members held at his residence and asked for Koirala´s support to resolve the disputes.
Though Koirala agreed with Deuba on the urgency of forming the executive committees of various sister organizations, the two leaders also agreed to hold detailed discussions toward resolving all the contentious issues only after Deuba returns to Kathmandu Tuesday, according to a party leader close to the NC president.
The Deuba faction had been demanded at least four of the five remaining CWC memberships including the post of one joint general-secretary and the immediate formation of the party´s parliamentary board. The latter is responsible for picking party candidates for general elections and appointing the party´s zonal chiefs.
Likewise, the rival faction has demanded the formation of the executive committees of various sister organizations including Nepal Students´ Union, Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Women´s Association through consensus, along with proportionate representation from their faction in all appointments to the party´s 32 various departments and its work execution committee.
Earlier, a consensus proposal worked out by senior leaders close to the party president had suggested putting on hold the formation of the party´s parliamentary board and the pending nomination of five members to the CWC.
Meanwhile, President Koirala held a meeting with the party´s office bearers and leaders close to him in the evening.
Koirala apprised the leaders about his meeting with Deuba and sought suggestions to resolve the differences in view of Deuba approaching him for an amicable solution. "Everything has been resolved. Party´s sister organizations will be formed soon in consensus," said Koirala´s aide Laxman Dhakal.
