KATHMANDU, Feb 10: While concluding that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Agreement is in the best interest of Nepal, ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to take initiative to endorse the agreement at the earliest possible date through parliament.

A meeting of the party’s Work Performance Committee held at the party's headquarters in Sanepa on Thursday made a decision to go to people to clear propaganda spread against the MCC projects after endorsing the agreement through parliament.

NC leader Dr Shashank Koirala told media persons after the meeting that the meeting decided to endorse the MCC agreement as it is in the best interest of Nepal and Nepali people. "We should clear confusions related to MCC among people after endorsing it through the parliament," he said.

The decision of NC to go to election after endorsing MCC Compact Agreement comes in the wake of coalition partners—CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) – proposing to go to election without endorsing the MCC Compact Agreement from parliament.

During the NC's meeting, former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat had made a long briefing on the MCC Compact Agreement. He also said that a section of political parties had spread misinformation about the agreement without any grounds.

All the leaders speaking during the meeting had argued that they should not further delay endorsing the MCC agreement. The leaders also suggested the party’s top leadership looking for alternatives if coalition partners are not ready to endorse the agreement through parliament.
