KATHMANDU, July 26: The Nepali Congress (NC) has stressed on restructuring the local authority so as to reach out to everyone's doorsteps with government services.

During a meeting held at the NC Parliamentary Party Office at Singha Durbar today, the party officials concluded that the proposal of the local body restructuring commission for determining the number of VDCs was not practical.

The party concluded that the VDCs must be empowered with adequate resources and manpower in the backdrop of constitutional provision granting important rights to the village bodies, said leader Bal Krishna Khand.

The party called for reviewing the huge size of the jurisdiction of a VDC as it would force the people to travel long distance. NC has called for restructuring so as to make it practical by maintaining the coordination among the size of the local body, geography and demography, said Khand, adding that the party would hold discussion among the concerned bodies for the same.

The meeting was attended by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, former General Secretary duo Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prsasad Sitaula, and leaders including Gopalman Shrestha, Bhimalendra Nidhi, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Mahesh Acharya. RSS
