In a statement, Naya Patrika branch of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has accused Rajan Shrestha and Rajkumar Sigdel, the vice chairman and the secretary respectively of the Nepal Students´ Union´s student unit at Pashuapti Multiple Campus, of being involved in the vandalism. [break]
"The group comprising eight to ten people came at around 10:30 in the morning and vandalized my office, computers, windows, telephone system and furniture," said Krishna Jwala Devkota, the editor of Naya Patrika.
He informed that the youths used abusive words and refused to talk to him. The youths, according to Devkota, carried out the attack as the paper published a news about a gang-fight involving the students affiliated to the student union in its Sunday edition.
The police have arrested three youths, including Rajan Shrestha and Rajkumar Sigdel, for the vandalism.
In the meantime, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, Minister for Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Gupta, President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala, leader Ram Chandra Paudel and President of Federation of Nepalese Journalist, Shiva Gaule visited the newspaper´s office to take stock of the damages.
Issuing separate statements, the Republica, Rajdhani and Naya Patrika chapters of FNJ have condemned the vandalism and demanded punishment to the guilty.
