National Weightlifting C'ship in Birgunj

KATHMANDU, March 1: Nepal Weightlifting Association (NWA) is all set to organize National Open Men´s and Women´s Weightlifting Championship in Birgunj later this month.



NWA General Secretary Partha Sarathi Sen Gupta made the announcement during a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday. Gupta said NWA is organizing the championship on March 21-22 in association with Birgunj Swimming Pool and Health Club.[break]



NWA is organizing the championship as per its plans to conduct a tournament every four months. The championship is also a selection tournament for the next phase of Mission SAG training, according to Gupta.



Currently, eight male and four female weightlifters are undergoing training for SAG.



Altogether 110 weightlifters from 17 districts, Nepal Police Club and Tribhuvan Army Club will be competing in the championship in 15 weight categories -- eight weight categories in men´s and seven in women´s section.



The estimated cost of the championship is Rs 1 million. Shalimar Cement is the main sponsor while Vaidhya Group is the co-sponsor of the event.
