National Park, Chivas win

CHITWAN, Nov 29: National Park team of Nepal and Chivas Regal of Scotland registered impressive wins during the league round of the Elephant Polo World Cup that kicked off here on Monday.



ERG of Switzerland and Sepoys of the UAE also won their respective matches held at the Meghauli airfield, Chitwan.[break]



The much experienced National Park team easily defeated British Gurkha team of England 10-5. Chivas registered a 11-7 victory over Tiger Tops Tusker of Iceland.



In another match, Sepoys defeated Afghani team 11-2. Likewise, Great Britain´s Pukka Chakka edged out EFG of Switzerland 7-3.



Tusker will now face Afghani team while EFG will face National Park team on Tuesday. Likewise, Chivas and Sepoys, and British Gurkha and Pukka Chakka will compete with each other in the day´s other matches.



This is the 29th edition of the Elephant Polo World Cup, which is held only in Nepal. The event is being organized by International Association of Elephant Polo under the coordination of Tiger Tops Hotel.



Altogether 20 elephants are used in the games --10 each from Chitwan National Park and Tiger Tops. According to the hosts, the event is also organized with a view to promoting Nepal Tourism Year 2011.



Though the Elephant Polo game started in Nepal, it is also played in Sri Lanka and England these days.
