According to the organizers, the event will feature competitions in ten different weight categories each including men´s and women´s section.[break]
The tournament originally scheduled to be held from December 5 was postponed citing to technical reasons. The winners of each category will receive Rs 5,000 while runner up will bag Rs 3,000 and two semifinalists will be awarded with Rs 1,000 respectively.
Niraj Niraula in sole lead
Niraj Niraula of Jhapa on Sunday has taken sole lead with five points in the Chakratirth Cup FIDE Rating Chess Tournament being held at Chobhar.
Niraula has earned five points at the end of round five to come atop the poitns table.
Niraula defeated Bhawani Limbu in the fourth and Krishna Thapa in the fifth round played on Sunday. Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali and Rabindra Shakya are jointly in second position with 4.5 apiece.
Nepali played draw against Bikash Kuluju in the fourth round and defeated Surbir Lama in the fifth round. Shakya also had to settle for draw against Lama and beat Rajendra Prashad Shrestha in the fifth round.
Krishna Thapa, Rajan Puri, FM Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Madan Krishna Kayastha, Nabin Tandukar, Lav Kumar Shrestha and Keshav Shrestha jointly occupy fourth place four points each.
Gurung wins best archer title
Wangdel Gurung of Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club on Sunday won the best archer title in the individual category of Open Archery Tournament being held in Kathmandu.
Gurung scored 12 points in the individual round to occupy the top position. Gurung added four points to his overnight score of eight points to move to the top. He received Rs 30,500 as the best archer of the tournament.
Govinda Chhantyal of Nepal Chhantyal Sangh finished second while Urgen Gurung of Mustang Barhagaun finished third. Chhantyal scored eight points while Gurung scored seven points. The finals of the team event will be held on Monday.
First position holders in the team event will bag the purse of Rs 25,000 while the second and the third position holders will receive Rs 15, 000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The tournament is being organized by Nepal-Japan Contact Committee.
