National Assembly passes three bills

KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Today's meeting of the National Assembly unanimously passed the 'Monitoring and Evaluation Bill, 2076'. On behalf of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma presented a proposal to discuss the bill along with the report of the Legislative Management Committee.

Regarding the proposal, MP Khim Lal Devkota said that this bill is positive and added that the role of local and provincial governments should also be clear in it. He emphasized that in order to make all types of projects effective, there should be arrangements for monitoring by all three levels of government and there should be a provision in this regard in the bill.

Responding to the query raised by MP Devkota, Minister Sharma said that the government has moved forward with this bill while addressing the concern that the expected benefits could not be achieved due to the failure of effective approval and evaluation of development projects.

In the same meeting, the 'Archives Protection (First Amendment) Bill, 2077' was unanimously passed. On behalf of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kiranti, Minister Sharma submitted a proposal to pass the bill.

Similarly, today's meeting unanimously passed the 'Food Hygiene and Quality Bill, 2077'. Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Jwalakumari Sah submitted a proposal to pass the bill along with the report of the Legislative Management Committee. The next meeting of the National Assembly will be held at 5 o'clock on Friday, February 10.
