National Army last resort to face challenges: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday said that Nepal Army was the last resort of the nation to face any kind of challenges and hence asked the military force to remain prepared round the clock.

 Addressing army personnel during his inspection visit to the Army Headquarters, Prime Minister Dahal stressed on the need of making the military force more intact, stronger and modernized. 

According to NA's Directorate of Public Relations, PM Dahal said that NA has made a laudable contribution to the efforts of establishing peace globally. "The honesty, courage and heroism of NA personnel are highly laudable across the globe and I respect the positive role of NA in the country's peace process," he said adding.

Meanwhile, PM Dahal has also assured to make efforts to modernize the national army by equipping it with necessary resources. "We are aware of the need to maintain high morale of NA," PM said. According to sources, Prime Minister Dahal stressed on not dragging the NA into war-era cases and sought the need of a common opinion between NA and the government over the peace process. 

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Rajendra Chhetri briefed the Prime Minister on NA's peacekeeping missions and its achievements in maintaining peace globally as well as about national security and development projects of national prides among others. He also mentioned that despite challenges, NA made maximum efforts in contributing to the nation's integrity, sovereignty and independence.  

During the program, army generals from respective departments briefed PM Dahal about the ongoing progress about welfare funds, rescue, relief and reconstruction after the earthquake and some ambitious future plans.

Defense Minister Bal Krsihna Khand also lauded NA's roles in disaster management, reconstruction, surveillance of national parks and environment conservation among others. 

The inspection visit was accompanied by DPM and Home Minister Bimlendra Nidhi, DPM and Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Physical Infrastructure Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Energy Minister Janardan Sharma, Forest Minister Shankar Bhandari, Government Secretary Som Lal Subedi, Defence Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota among others.
