CHITWAN, Sept 27: The Narayani River reached its highest recorded water level on Sunday, rising to 11.91 metres amid continuous heavy rainfall.
According to the Water Measurement Centre in Devghat, the river reached 11.91 metres at 2:13 pm, the highest level recorded since the centre began measuring the river’s water level.
The water level had reached 11.89 metres at noon on Sunday.

The previous record was 11.6 metres, recorded on October 28, 2024. The river had reached 10.46 metres on July 7 of the same year.
Sumit Adhikari of the Devghat Water Measurement Centre said the Narayani has set a new historical record this year.
Data from the centre show that the river reached 6.3 metres on September 28, 2025, the lowest level recorded in the past five years. It reached 8.33 metres on August 14, 2023, 9.52 metres on October 6, 2022, and 10.5 metres in 2021.
A water level above 9 metres is considered dangerous in the Narayani River. The centre considers a level above 7.3 metres an alert condition, while 9 metres marks the danger level.
