NEPALGUNJ, Sept 17: The water level in Rapti river at Kusum, Banke, has crossed six meters due to incessant rainfall. It is considered dangerous when the water level in the river reaches above 5 meters and 40 centimeters.
Rupan Gyawali, Information Management Officer at the National Emergency Operation Center, informed Republica that the water level of the river in Kusum reached 6.13 meters, according to a 20-minute record at around 9:30AM on Saturday. The water level in the Rapti River has risen due to heavy rainfall in the hilly districts of Rolpa and Pyuthan.

Gyawali asked ordinary people living in coastal areas and peninsula areas of Rapti River to take necessary precautions. As a threat, sirens have started blowing in the lower coastal area of Rapti. The local administration has also appealed to local people to go to safe places before the flood.
Due to the Lakshmanpur Dam and Kalkalwa Dam, which India built against international law, more than half a dozen villages in Banke are inundated every year when there is a big flood. Thousands of bighas of arable land are eroded and ruined due to floods.
