KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kirati has said that Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) flights will start from the Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) soon.

After an inspection of the airport, the minister stated that he will address the issue of delayed arrival of the flights of the national airline as soon as reaching Kathmandu. He spoke with journalists at the airport and promised to inquire about the reason for the absence of the national-flag carrier’s aircraft and work to restore its operations.

He said that he is taking initiatives for flights of not only NAC but also other airlines. Minister Kirati said that an initiative has also been taken for the Colombo-Bhairhawa-Colombo flights through the foreign minister who is in Sri Lanka on a visit at the moment.

Minister Kirati expressed his commitment to resolve the diplomatic and technical problems for the operation of this airport and insisted that he would provide all necessary support for the operation of the airport. Jazeera and Himalaya Airlines, which had regular flights to this airport, stopped their flights last December citing bad weather.

Himalaya Airlines, which is a joint investment of the private sector of Nepal and China, stopped flights from December 16 and Jazeera from December 21.
