NAC slashes airfare as number of passengers falls

Offers New Delhi flight at just Rs 1,400
KATHMANDU, May 22: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has been selling tickets for international flights at discounted rates after number of passengers started falling in the aftermath of the earthquake.




“As the number of foreigners coming to Nepal is very negligible at present, we have started selling tickets at low rates to encourage Nepalis to travel abroad,” Ram Hari Sharma, spokesperson of NAC, said.

NAC has been selling discounted tickets to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Doha and New Delhi.



According to Sharma, NAC is selling one-way ticket for Bangkok at Rs 11,000 and round trip at Rs 19,000 exclusive of taxes. “We are also providing a ticket free on purchase of two-round trip tickets till June 30,” said Sharma.



Similarly, the state-owned carrier has fixed one-way fare for Hong Kong at Rs 24,500, while the two-way ticket will cost Rs 48,000 to 50,000 exclusive of taxes.



According to Sharma, these tickets are valid for travel for 3 months. Similarly, one-way ticket for Kuala Lumpur is available at Rs 16,500 and round trip at Rs 19,000 to Rs 33,000 exclusive of taxes.  Sharma said these fares are applicable for tickets purchased before June 15.



Similarly, NAC is offering one-way and round trip fare for Doha at Rs 21,500 and Rs 42,000, exclusive of taxes. Likewise, it has fixed fare for New Delhi at Rs 1,400 and round trip at Rs 2,800 exclusive of taxes. The tickets are valid for 28 days.



The state-owned carrier is soon starting flights to Dubai (UAE), Bangalore and Mumbai (India), and Guangzhou (China) with its new Airbus A320-200 aircraft. While flights to Mumbai and Dubai will begin from June, scheduled flights to Bangalore and Guangzhou will start within few months, according to NAC officials.



NAC has fixed one-way fare for Mumbai and Bangalore at Rs 8,818 each. Similarly, round trip fare for the two Indian metros has been fixed at Rs 17,635. All the fares are exclusive of taxes.



Different Indian airlines have also reduced fare for Kathmandu from different cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai and Varanasi by almost half to attract passengers.
