Ganesh Thakur, deputy managing director NAC´s technical department, said the national flag carrier was doing groundwork to build new hangars as the existing facility can´t accommodate new aircraft that NAC is adding in its fleet. [break]
The existing hangar, which was built decades ago, does not have sufficient space for parking and maintenance of aircraft. NAC has requested government to request donor agencies for aid or arrange soft loans for it.
NAC Spokesperson Raju Bahadur KC said they were yet to get positive response from the government, despite repeated requests.
“We will start feasibility study once the government arranges funds for the purpose,” Thakur added. He added that the total cost of project has been estimated at $90 to $100 million.
TIA management has already allotted land in the eastern side of the runway for the purpose.
The existing hangar can fully accommodate four Twin Otters and partially accommodate a Boeing 757, Thakur told myrepublica.com.
NAC plans to immediately acquire two medium-sized aircraft for its trunk routes and seven small aircraft.
The proposed hangar can accommodate two wide-body aircraft, one narrow-body and some Twin Otters.
