SURKHET, Jan 3: Gurvakot Municipality has taken a decision to provide social security allowance to orphaned and disabled children who are deprived of parental love and various other privileges.
As informed by the officers of the municipality, such children will receive Rs.500 per month. Hasta Pun, mayor of the municipality, informed Republica that the allowance will be distributed to the children who lack parental care and protection. "We have introduced this program with the objective of facilitating the poor, disabled and orphan children," said Pun, adding, "We will not just rescue them but will also work for their reunion and also take care of their health and education." According to him, the municipality office will first open an account for such children at a local co-operative and then deposit the allowance amount in it.
A six-member committee will be formed under the leadership of the ward chiefs to implement this new plan. The municipality will sanction the allowance for the children after the recommendation of the committee. Those children with disabled, missing or unidentified parents will be benefited by this allowance. Not just that, even the children of parents who are alive but still don't take the responsibility of their children will be provided with this allowance.
Gurvakot Municipality to provide allowance to helpless children
The committee will collect the details of such children who meet the criteria to be in the list and submit it to the municipality. In coordination with the Women and Children Office (WCO), Surkhet, the municipality has collected data on the total number of children who are at risk in the area. As per the details, altogether 148 children including 73 male and 72 female are missing in Gurvakot Municipality.
Prem Prasad Acharya, an officer of WCO said that most of the missing children don't have parents. According to Mayor Pun, after the collection of details, the allowance will be distributed from next month.
