KATHMANDU, July 7: Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (Democratic) led by Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar has called a meeting of the party Central Committee (CC) for Friday to discuss disciplinary action against three lawmakers who are reportedly working to split the party.

According to a senior party leader, the party leadership is making preparations to ask lawmakers Sanjaya Shah, who has been relieved from all party responsibilities since January, Ramananda Mandal and Karima Begum to furnish clarifications within 72 hours over the accusations.[break]

“We have called a meeting of the CC to discuss disciplinary action against three lawmakers who have been found involved in the activities against the party,” said the leader.

Sah, Mandal and begum were elected under the first past-the-post system from Dhanusha-4, Morang-4 and Parsa-1, respectively.

The party leaders claimed that the Maoists have lured them with “money and powerful positions” into opening a new political party and the three lawmakers are now trying hard to convince others to join them.

The leader claimed that it was part of the Maoist plan to garner a two-thirds majority in parliament in favor of the so-called “leftist alliance.” With a two-thirds majority at its disposal, the leftist alliance, according to the leader, plans to extend the CA term “unilaterally” and even “promulgate” the new constitution.

Reacting to the allegation, Mandal stated that his group doesn’t want to split the party, but added that dissatisfaction is rife within the party.

“The rumor that we were going to split the party is being disseminated by some party leaders. We don’t have a capacity to run a new party after splitting from Bijaya Gachchhadar and Sarat Singh Bhandari,” he said, adding, “But it is true that dissatisfaction is rife in our party.”
