Organizing a press conference at its parliamentary office in Singha Durbar, MPRF Chairman Upendra Yadav, however, said the Maoists should adhere to democratic norms and values while staging protests.[break]
Yadav said his party would closely watch Maoist protest activities. “We morally support Maoist protest against the government but the protests should be non-violent,” he said.
Yadav made it clear that his party, however, has not reached any formal agreement with the Maoists. “Our support is not for seizing state power or for imposing authoritarian rule in the country,” he clarified.
Yadav argued that the current Madhav Kumar Nepal-government should step down to pave way for the formation of a government based on broader national consensus. He claimed the government had failed utterly in drafting the new constitution and taking the peace process to a logical end.
“The current government is a stumbling block to drafting of the new constitution,” he said. “The prime minister should step down to save the country from a disaster.”
The MPRF-led by Yadav has a total of 28 seats in the Constituent Assembly.
Accusing the big three parties of squabbling for power, Yadav argued that the government should be changed through due process in parliament.
“There must be a national consensus government in place to bail the country out of current political deadlock,” he maintained.
