KATHMANDU, Oct 24: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has pointed out the need for a mass movement to write a new constitution and take the peace process to its logical.

Dahal said this at a function organized by the Maoists´ Newa Rajya Mukti Morcha in Kathmandu on Saturday. "Conspiracy is being hatched against the constitution writing process and it is necessary to take to the streets to cut asunder such conspiracy,” he said at the function held to mark the New Year of Nepal Sambat.

A Maoist standing committee meeting on Friday had decided to launch movement if there is no consensus among the political parties on Maoist demand concerning civilian supremacy by Nov 1.

Dahal also advocated for the ethnic-based federal provinces. He said that the awareness level among the ethnic groups has gone up and it is for federalism.

Dahal said that the government recognized Nepal Sambat, but failed to implement it effectively. He said he would take initiatives in this regard.
