Mother smells rat in daughter's death

JANAKPUR, Jan 17: The mother of a woman, who mysteriously died last week, has claimed that her daughter was murdered by her husband and in-laws. Rupa Karna, 19, of Janakpur -10, who was married off to Satish Karna of Janakpur -2 was found dead in her husband´s home on January 11.



Anila Karna, mother of the deceased, called a press meet on Sunday and claimed that her daughter was killed as the former had refused to meet the demand for more dowries. [break]



“A few days before the incident, Satish had demanded an LCD television,” she said. Anila also claimed that Satish had already been given Rs 400,000, a motorbike, four tolas of gold and other home appliances as dowry. Rupa was a BEd student.



On the other hand, Satish´s family has claimed that his wife had committed suicide.



“After a minor altercation, she slept with me that night. As I fell asleep, she woke up and went to the drawing room to hang herself to death,” Satish claimed.



Police had found Rupa´s body lying on a bed when they reached the site of the incident. “Investigation into the incident is on. We can ascertain something only after we get the postmortem report,” said Inspector Bhuwaneshwar Tiwari.
