PAANCHTHAR, Jan 24: Several government buildings in Panchthar have been found built spending large amount of money against the standards and criteria set by the government.
The designs of many under-construction buildings in the district headquarters Phidim are yet to be approved.
As per the rules, the design of any building can be approved only after paying tax. However, the building code has been widely neglected in the district. As per the provision of the Local Government Operation Act 2074, no building can be constructed without the approval of its design.

But government offices have breached this provision. As informed by Gurudatta Subedi, administrative chief of Phidim Municipality, the designs of most of the government buildings being constructed in the headquarters have not been approved. According to the municipal authorities, this has caused a loss of Rs 5 million tax amount to the municipality.
The design for the under-construction building of District Hospital, which is being built with a total budget of Rs 210 million, is yet to be approved. Similarly, the building of Public Health Office which was built few months ago has also not passed the design. Likewise, the building of Livestock Service Office has also not approved its design.
Furthermore, the building of the District Police Office was inaugurated a few days ago without approving the design. There are a dozen of government buildings in Paanchthar which have been built breaching the standards of the government.
As per the provision, those who construct buildings breaching the standards will have to pay a compensation of Rs 500,000. Not just that, such buildings will have to pay tax three times the normal amount.
