RAJBIRAJ, April 11: Locals in the Chure forest area of Saptari district have yet again stumbled upon some archaic weapons, indicating the presence of more historic relics in the area.

Last Wednesday, a group of locals came across a large number of iron weapons at Dunghe Lade in the forest area, and more such items were unearthed after excavators were deployed from the Dharmeshowr Mahadev Temple Conversation and Tourist Area Development Committee. [break]

“It was the locals who found the buried weapons first. After digging some two feet, our team recovered a huge quantity of traditional weapons, which to my knowledge date back centuries,” said deputy chief of the committee Prem Bahadur Bishwakarma.

One can easily find such weapons and metal articles around the area, informed Bishwakarma. “We have secured the area from the public and restricted any excavation work there,” he said.

According to Biswakarma, they have recovered items like chains, swords, metal arrows and shields.

“All these historic items are safe in the hands of the committee and we will also inform the local administration about the find soon,” said chief of the committee, Dil Bahadur Magar.

The Kadiya river runs near the excavation spot and an hour´s walk away one can reach an ancient fort dating back to the Salhesh regime in the 9th century.

According to Hari Kanta Lal, a historian, all the relics belongs to the Salhesh period. “During the 9th century, King Salhesh was dominant in the Chure forest region and I believe all these metal weapons are from that era,” said Lal. “I would have confirmed this if the committee had let me inspect the relics closely,” he added.

Meanwhile, locals have said that the authorities should delve into the matter with serious study and research.
