Monsoon batters Saptari, inundates over 125 houses

RAJBIRAJ, June 25:   The continuing monsoon has wreaked havoc on the southern part of Saptari district, inundating over 125 houses on Saturday morning.

A swollen rivulet, locally called Khando, has caused mayhem after it entered Ward No 6 and 7 of Sakpura VDC.

According to District Police Office, Saptari, the deluge swamped into the human settlements after it eroded the dam of the rivulet at Sakpur VDC-6.

With the dam broken down, the flood has also ravaged around five bighas of land, said police.

As many as 125 houses have been waterlogged measuring two-feet high after the flood entered the human settlements, DSP Dan Bahadur Karki told Republica Online.

The deluge has also damaged around two kilometers of Tilathi-Hanumannagar road stretch, Karki added.

As many as 40 security personnel have been deployed in the flood-hit area for relief, rescue and dam repair works.

According to Karki, 15 security personnel have been deployed from DPO, Saptari under the command of Police Inspector, five from Tilathi Police Post under the command of Head Constable and 20 Armed Police Force personnel from Tilathi-based APF Border Outpost under the command of Police Inspector.
