KATHMANDU, Aug 5:  The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has reported that monsoon will be active in Nepal on Tuesday and Wednesday. A red alert has been issued in over three dozen districts which are likely to be highly affected.

The districts which are under ‘Red Zone’ include Taplejung, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha and Tehrathum of Koshi Province and Rasuwa, Chitwan, Sindhupalchok, Dhading, Nuwakot and Dolakha of Bagmati Province.

Similarly, the districts under ‘Red Zone’ with extreme danger are Myagdi, Baglung, Kaski, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahun, Nawalparasi East, Lamjung and Gorkha of Gandaki Province.

Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Palpa, Gulmi, Nawalparasi West, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Pyuthan and Arghakhanchi districts of Lumbini Province and Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Doti and Baitadi districts of Sudurpaschim Province have also been categories under ‘Red Zone’.

According to the MFD, as the monsoon low-pressure line will move near Nepal from Tuesday, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in most parts of the country for two days.

Similarly, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and at a few places of Karnali and Madhesh provinces.

Likewise, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. The MFD has advised everyone to take necessary precautionary measures, as the risk of soil erosion, floods and landslides has increased on August 6 and 7. It is mentioned in the bulletin issued by the DHM today that there is a risk of inundation in urban and Terai areas as rainfall is more likely to occur during the night in the monsoon season.

“The general public and all concerned agencies are urged to take necessary precautions and pre-preparedness as daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, road and air transport might also be impacted,” according to the bulletin.
